Hi guys,

I know that Papervision3D is been around for a while and it features a lot of amazing stuff but Five3D amazed me by its simplicity and its vector rendering capabilities.
It’s my first love and I’m being a good disciple.
For my website video production project, called SolidPitch, I got the idea of building a 3D gallery that will stand apart ( I think ).

WordPress 3.0 Memory Issues

You’ve got all excited about upgrading your website to the new version of WP and then … bummer. After login you get some memory related error message.
That sucks, it was supposed to be a smooth transition, you did everything they told you to do.
Let’s see if this one will do it:

First, you’ll need to edit/add some setting in order to allocate more memory to your instance. It looks like due to the large number of plugins, 32MB of RAM is not enough. To check the actual memory usage, here’s a nice trick: in your website root folder create a php file and name it so you can remember it easily afterwards. Let’s call it info.php. The code inside the body tag should look like this:
Next, log out
Then rename the “plugins” folder and than create an empty one instead
Login back and go to the plugins page. Delete the folder you just created and the rename back the plugins folder; it should display all of them as inactive.

When Your Mac Doesn't Remember The Sound Settings, in /Library/Preferences/Audio

This is really annoying: you hook up the speakers and you set up in the preferences that your Mac will use them for playback.
But, when you restart you realize that the settings are lost! WTF?!
Good news: there’s a fix. Phew!
First, you go to Library>Preferences>Audio and delete the files in that folder.
After that, you need to reset your Mac’s PRAM and NVRAM. (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379?viewlocale=en_US)
1. Shut down the computer.
2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
3. Turn on the computer.
4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
6. Release the keys.

Now, if that still doesn’t fix the issue try the following:

Deleted the Audio folder located at [OSX HDD Name]/Library/Preferences/ and create a new one as root in the terminal:
sudo mkdir /Library/Preferences/Audio
then set permissions:
sudo chown -R _coreaudiod:admin /Library/Preferences/Audio
That should allow the system to write a file with the settings in that folder. And remember tham, for God’s sake…it took me two weeks to gather this info.

When Your Windows Live Messenger Doesn’t Save User Name and Password In XP

Hi guys,

I kept having this issue with my piece of crap Windows Live Messenger I am using at work. (otherwise it will get removed)

Open the Registry Editor (Start > Run > regedit)

Browse for
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Explorer/User Shell Folders
There is a key called “AppData”.
It should have this value:%APPDATA%.
Double click “AppData” to change the value to “%USERPROFILE%\Application Data”.
That means from now on the applications will get their data from the folder “Application Data” in your user folder.

I hope it works for everybody who has the same problem.

OK, this one is very easy to follow.
Let’s say we have two tables that we need to zebra strip.
In our .css file we will create a class for the alternating color row, let’s call it “.alternatecolor”.
After that, all we need to do is to assign the class “strippedtable” to each table we need to affect.

jQuery will take care of the rest upon finishing loading the document. Just use the snippet below.

OK,

Let’s assume that we have a pop-up message triggered by a session timeout kind of event.
Like you should have for your online banking web application.

So, the message pops up reading that you have few more minutes to complete your online experience with that specific secured website.
Usually, if you don’t do anything about that, in about the same time it took the message to pop, the application will sign you out.

On the client side you have JavaScript for timing those actions.
Now, let’s say that the button that signs you out is called “btnSignOut”.
If you want to trigger the same action from a line of JS, on timeout, you should have something like this:

}

That will trigger the same event as by clicking on the “btnSignOut” linkButton.

Getting the ID for the last inserted item with ASP.NET and VB

OK, I know it’s recommended to use stored procedures but sometimes you need a short one for domestic use.
So, how do we do it, without setting two SqlCommand objects?

1. We define a connection
Dim conSQLDBConn As New SqlConnection([Connection String])

2. Create a command and set the params.
Dim cmdSQLCommand As New SqlCommand

cmdSQLCommand.CommandType = Data.CommandType.Text

3. Assign the connection
cmdSQLCommand.Connection = conSQLDBConn

4. Will define and configure a parameter that will return the value we need: the last inserted item ID
Dim prmInsert As New SqlParameter
prmInsert.Direction = ParameterDirection.Output
prmInsert.ParameterName = “ProductID” ‘ that would be your ID, in my case I was playing with products
prmInsert.Size = 10 ‘this should match what you defined in your table
cmdSQLCommand.Parameters.Add(prmInsert)

5. Now we create the insert statement
cmdSQLCommand.CommandText = “INSERT INTO Products (ProductName,ProductDescription) VALUES ([ProductName],[ ProductDescription]); SELECT SCOPE_IDENTITY() AS ProductID”

SELECT SCOPE_IDENTITY() is the magic word, that will return our ID.

6. Now we make sure we get that back from the SQL statement by using “ExecuteScalar”
Dim strProductID as String = cmdSQLCommand.ExecuteScalar()

Note that the values in square brackets would be your constants, whatever.

That’s it. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy

Solution for 500 Internal Server Error – WordPress And Shared Hosting

Hi guys,
I just encountered this issue after installing WordPress on one of my clients’ shared hosting (1and1).
I personally like 1and1′s control panel and actually this is almost the only problem I have with them.
But it looks that they got a bit greedy with their resources and would offer you by default just a bit of memory to use.
Luckily there’s a solution for that. It looks like if you create a text file named php.ini in the directory “/wp-admin/” within your WordPress installation,
you’ll convince your php instance to use more memory.
Oh, inside the file just enter “memory=20MB” and then upload it. Good luck!
